Again, somewhat lacking in photos. Not from lack of light, but from lack of a model. 250g used up in a dress for the small person - a lovely wrap dress in purple, blue and lilac with some fabulous buttons! Can I get the model to sit still though?
Quite!
Still, the plan to have one major project each week and to make weight with longer term ones seems to be working. The long-term is the green leaf - coming along reasonably well though the yarn is pooling a bit in places. Still, this should a) even out as the rows get longer and b) not be that visible by the time I’m done

Late, I know - I was hoping for better light to take photos, but it isn’t happening. We are getting some amazing gales, but somehow wind-whipped and soaking wet isn’t the look I am going for.
3 more lace scarves finished:

Sweet Almond

Violet
I finished ‘Slate’ as well, but sadly the rain came down before I could picture it

Before the small person came along, I’d not had a great deal to do with infants and to be honest, I wasn’t that sure how to keep them amused at an age where they want to eat anything and everything. But I seemed to be figuring it out ok, by taking her round house and garden with me and letting her get involved wherever and whenever it was safe. The small person does like the workroom. It’s full of fascinating things to play with (yarn, empty cones, cardboard boxes) but now she’s more confident in moving about she’s getting more adventurous. The loom was a source of great fascination, till she pulled out the sheds…The clothes rail that I use to hang finished items on was also fun - until she found that it was a bit too precarious for her to climb it. After I dismantled it for safety, she spent a happy afternoon pulling the castors off and hiding them in my boots. In between pulling 2′ of lace of the knitting needles and hiding 20 spools of rug wool in various places - some of which have yet to be discovered. (A side note: The Boss has long been convinced that she is kin to Cthulhu and is a portal for the Great Old Ones to cross through. I think she may have given them the wool to take home with them).
After this busy afternoon I was considering taking her to the zoo. See if I could swap her for something less destructive. A gibbon maybe, or a young chimp. But around that point a small person came barrelling over the floor, embraced my knees with fervour and in tones of delight and triumph announced “Mama!!!”

I think we might keep her after all

All posts with links in get held up in the moderation queue. Even ones apparently from the Catholic Church offering me free ringtones. Please, don’t send me links to anything pertaining to sex, religion, ethics, politics or anything else in a similar vein. It’s not personal - I may well quite agree with you - it’s just good business.
If there is something you want to draw my attention to and I know you, then you have my personal email. If I don’t know you then you’ll have to be sufficiently convincing to get past the spam guards.

Made it through my set amount - and with time to spare. 3 scarves finished and the laceweight started. I’m not so daft as to try to knit 300g lace in one week - especially as the small person has discovered how delightfully the needle ends wiggle and how much fun it is to try to swing off them…

Autumn Leaves

Spring Greens

Wine and Roses
All knit in a razorshell lace. 2 more to finish this week and then that is the end of that yarn for now. The lace pattern suits the yarn and is easy to knit up - but I shall be glad of something new to work on!

When the going gets tough, the tough get…organised!
I finally got around to doing something that has been on the to-do list for ages. Finding out just how much - and what - yarn I have. As stashes go, it’s quite reasonable - only 15.5kg 16kg* Practically nothing, compared to some. but it’s not just yarn - it’s 16kg of raw stock that is just sitting there and doing nothing. And that annoys me. It’s also bad business to have so much raw materials (and capital) tied up. So, having finally found out what there is, it’s time to start using it up and making it into things. It is all listed, sorted and catalogued (can you tell I trained as a taxonomist?) and over the next year what can be used, will be. It works out at a fairly modest 300g per week. Generally manageable, though obviously 300g chunky will disappear in no time compared to 300g laceweight. In fact, I’m trying hard not to think about the 200g green laceweight and what I’m going to do about it…
Not all of it will get used - I know that. There is a shocking 3.5kg of scraps in there and though I can use a fair amount up in the thread packs I have for sale on Etsy and ShopHandmade I’m going to have to accept that some is just going to have to be scrapped. My inner packrat weeps…
Nov 1st 2009 - 15kg 16kg* knitted up. That’s the aim. The Boss is already placing bets as to when I fall off the wagon, when I finally crack and end up buying new. But there’s nothing like a little opposition to make me tougher
